Process notes: Two candidates consider their training
Berkman, Kathy; Press, Michele
Suggests that the interweaving of personal analysis with supervised casework and classroom teaching serves to enhance a candidate's analytic sensibilities. Personal treatment that addresses the conflicts impeding clinical work also provides powerful role models. Supervision serves as a locus for critical yet supportive commentary. The didactic program, generally considered the weakest aspect of training, gives an intellectual scaffold on which to structure the candidate's clinical development.
