New Resource: Ready Reference

“Ready reference” is library terminology for those books most frequently consulted when searching for quick answers to fact-based questions. These reference resources typically include dictionaries, almanacs, directories, and style manuals among others and are located next to the reference desk in most libraries.  For easy accessibility, the library has added to its website a virtual ready reference shelf specifically tailored to the special needs of medical and health science students and professionals.  Now, your ready reference questions can be answered from any location by using these conveniently bundled reference resources, which include Stedman’s Medical Dictionary, The Directory of Health Organizations, The Gale Encyclopedia of Cancer, Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice, Schwartz’s Principles of Surgery, and many more.

Update on NIH Public Access Policy

Confused about the new NIH Public Access Policy?  Attend the Open Forum on NIH Public Access on May 15, 2008, Noon-1:00 pm in the Smilow Seminar Room. Representatives from NYUMC Compliance, Sponsored Programs and Health Sciences Libraries will present information and answer questions on the policy. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy became effective April 7, 2008. Under a new federal law, NIH is now requiring that the author’s final version of any peer-reviewed journal article resulting from NIH-funded activities must be submitted to the PubMed Central (PMC) repository, where it will be made available to the public within 12 months after the journal article is published. Additional information is available on the libraries’ website: http://library.med.nyu.edu/library/services/nih_mandate.html
