In observance of American Diabetes Month, the Patient & Family Resource Center, an NYU Langone Medical Center consumer health library, is distributing free diabetes daily log books. Published by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as part of their Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, these log books are a useful tool to help people with diabetes stay on top of managing this chronic illness. About the size of a checkbook, the logs fit easily in a purse or backpack. Most of the pages consist of forms for tracking blood sugar readings, but there are also places to record test results, medications, and appointments. Tips for healthy eating and ways to increase physical activity are included as well. Titled “My Diabetes Checkbook”, the log books are available in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Stop by the Resource Center in Room 103 of the Schwartz Health Care Building, which happily shares its space with the Diabetes Education Center, and pick one up today!
