Patient & Family Resource Center Goes Red for Women

Go RedOn Friday, February 5, NYU Langone Medical Center’s Cardiac & Vascular Institute, in partnership with the American Heart Association (A.H.A.), celebrated the A.H.A.’s “Go Red for Women Day” by organizing a health fair for patients, staff, as well as the general public.  This is the second year the Medical Center has celebrated the annual observance to raise awareness about heart disease in women.

In addition to blood pressure screenings, healthful cooking demonstrations, and other healthy heart related activities, this year’s health fair included a table highlighting one of the NYU Health Sciences Libraries’ consumer health resource centers, the Patient & Family Resource Center (PFRC).  Visitors to the table could pick up American Heart Association pamphlets and brochures, watch an online animated slide show about heart disease from the National Library of Medicine’s MedlinePlus consumer health website, and fill out a “Health Information Request Form” to receive in-depth follow up reference information from one of the Medical Center’s consumer health librarians on the health topic of their choice.
