NWHM: Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell

Elizabeth Blackwell was a pioneer in the field of medicine, paving the way for women to become practicing physicians. Blackwell was the first woman to graduate from medical school, receiving her degree from Geneva Medical College. Upon completion of her education, she eventually relocated to New York City where she focused her practice on helping women and children. In 1857 she opened the New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children.
