The New York University Medical Center (NYUMC) is committed to providing information that supports informed health care decisions and promotes wellness. The following libraries provide free and confidential services to patients, their families, and other caregivers. The libraries are affiliated with the Frederick L. Ehrman Medical Library and are staffed by qualified medical librarians.

Together, the libraries provide:

  • Access to free and reliable information on all health topics
  • Personal and confidential help in finding accurate health information
  • A portal to appropriate consumer health information as well as access to over 12,000 online journals, 170+ databases and hundreds of books

The Patient and Family Resource Center (PFRC) is a library where you can access consumer health information on all health topics. A medical librarian and trained volunteers are available to help you find what you need.

Can't come in during business hours? You may ask for information on your health topic by phone and have it mailed you. You may also post your question by email.

The library's resources were selected to meet the needs of patients at the NYU Clinical Cancer Center. The library offers:

  • Books on cancer, books on specific types of cancer, and books on cancer-related topics such as nutrition and emotional support.
  • Textbooks, encyclopedias, and dictionaries about cancer.
  • Free brochures from the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute on many different topics.
  • 3 networked computers for accessing online information.
  • Appointments with a librarian to help you find the information that you need or to provide help in using the library's resources on your own.

The Family Health Education Center & Library at the Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is a resource center and consumer health library for patients and families of the Hassenfeld Center. Our library:
  • is staffed by a professional medical librarian;
  • has books, encyclopedias, magazines, brochures, databases, and electronic resources;
  • helps patients and families find accurate and clear health information;
  • has answers to your health and wellness questions; and
  • wants to help you be healthy and informed.

The library’s collection and mission support Hassenfeld’s goals of promoting health, wellness, education, and resilience among patients and their loved ones.
