Download SciFinder Scholar™ 2007 for Microsoft® Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher), XP (SP1 or SP2), or Vista
Note: NYU Libraries can support up to five simultaneous users of SciFinder Scholar 24 hours per day. Substructure searching is fully supported.
Installation and Authentication
Please note: You will need an NYU Net ID and Password to download these files. You cannot use your Kerberos ID (KID).
- To download SciFinder software, download SFS2007.exe (~12.2 MB self-extracting executable.) Save as "c:\temp\SFS2007.exe"
- Before running the installer, close all Windows applications.
- Run sfs2007.exe to install the SciFinder Scholar software. You can do this by:
- Double-clicking it in Windows Explorer (or My Computer)
- Choosing Run from your Start menu, typing in the full path to the file, and clicking OK
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
- If you are upgrading from SciFinder Scholar 2006, the upgrade will install in the same directory, overwriting the previous version.
- When you have installed SciFinder 2007, the program will ask you if you have a disk entitled Custom Site Files. Click NO. The program will close.
- Copy the file site.prf to the main SciFinder folder on your hard drive. This file authenticates you as an NYU student/faculty member.
- Open SciFinder by clicking on the program icon.

System requirements:
Computer: an Apple® Macintosh or compatible capable of running Macintosh OS X operating system 10.2 or newer
- Mac OS X 10.2 or newer
- Memory: Minimum required by the operating system
- Hard Disk with 40-50 MB available disk space.
- TCP/IP connection to the Internet
Monitor
SV-GA capable 13" or larger, Macintosh compatible
Screen Resolution
800x600 or greater
Color Depth
256 color minimum, higher recommended
Printer
High-quality graphics printer, e.g., laser or inkjet, recommended
Browser
Safari (OS X Default), or a Mac OS X compatible version of Netscape Navigator or Commmunicator, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft® Internet Explorer (MSIE). A web browser is needed to access full text, online Help, and other Internet resources with the Tools menu. Java and Javascript must be enabled, cookies must be accepted for some features in Chemport.
Note: SciFinder can support up to 5 simultaneous users at once.
Installation and Authentication

- Download SciFinder Scholar sfs2007.dmg (Macintosh Disk Image File) to your desktop or a download folder on your OS X drive.
- Double-click "sfs2007.dmg" to mount SciFinder Scholar (a Desktop Volume containing the SciFinder Scholar Application Package).
- Open the SciFinder Scholar Volume if it does not auto-open.
- Drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar Application Package (~21.9 MB) to your Applications folder.
- Download the authentication file site.prf.hqx and copy it into your SciFinder folder.
- Go to your Users:[User Name]:Library:Application Support folder
- Create a folder in Application Support called SciFinder Scholar
- Drag and drop the site.prf file into that SciFinder Scholar folder you created in Application Support
- Eject (Unmount) the desktop SciFinder Scholar Volume.
- (Optional) Create a "SciFinder Scholar" alias for your dock or desktop.
