| Using Library Materials in Online Courses |
If you wish to provide students the electronic fulltext of articles accessed through the NYU Health Sciences Libraries, you must proceed carefully. Compliance with copyright is the responsibility of the instructor, not the library or university.
The best and easiest way is to link directly to the resource through the library. Using our SFX Open URL Generator, you can create a hyperlink to send students directly to the full text of articles within the electronic collections. Linking in this way will ensure compliance with copyright at all times. The handout Creating Links to Full-Text (PDF) describes how to use the OpenURL Generator.
Though our electronic collection is one of the best in the nation, no collection is comprehensive. Some articles and most texts are not accessible electronically in the manner described above. We may have them in print, or you may secure these materials through other means.
In either case, you will need to determine if your use of a PDF version of the materials falls within fair use, or if you need to obtain copyright clearance before posting/distributing the PDF (which may involve a fee).
