The educational programs of the Frederick L. Ehrman Medical Library are designed to enhance learning, research, and patient care at the New York University School of Medicine and Medical Center. Programming is designed to foster awareness, appropriateness, and self-sufficiency in the use of information resources in an ever-changing information technology environment. Instruction promotes proficiency in the identification, skillful use, and critical appraisal of qualitative information resources. Additionally, proficiency in information management, presentation skills, and complementary software applications is supported.

The Medical Library Faculty is available to tailor instruction for you, your department or specific Medical Center group. These classes are not limited to those offered through the ongoing calendar of classes and can be arranged according to your subject interest and schedule. We will design classes that can address your specific information needs.

Library Research Skills Classes
Designed to develop basic knowledge of and skills using the fundamental tools of medicine and health-related literature research, information management, and presentation for School of Medicine and Medical Center students, faculty, and staff. All classes are held in the Carlisle Computer Classroom (CCC), MSB – Room 198B.
Curriculum Programs
Integrated with the formal curricula of the School of Medicine encompassing undergraduate and graduate education and the Schools of Nursing and Allied Health. Programming is developed in consultation with SOM faculty to address research issues as part of a course of study or for the application of information derived from one or more resources to meet the objectives of a course assignment or assignments. Skills that support life-long learning in medicine and allied health are reinforced.

Onsite Clinical Instruction
Patient-centered and integrated into clinic hours, rounds, and departmental conferences. Using the discussion of patient cases among attendings, house staff, and students to answer clinical questions, the library faculty assist in the use of online resources on an ad-hoc basis. Learning is achieved by reviewing the search methods and retrieval with the group during weekly meetings and over time.
