The educational programs of the Frederick L. Ehrman Medical Library are
designed to enhance learning, research, and patient care at the New York
University School of Medicine and Medical Center. Programming is designed
to foster awareness, appropriateness, and self-sufficiency in the use of
information resources in an ever-changing information technology environment.
Instruction promotes proficiency in the identification, skillful use, and
critical appraisal of qualitative information resources. Additionally, proficiency
in information management, presentation skills, and complementary software
applications is supported.
The Medical Library Faculty is available to tailor instruction for you, your department or specific Medical Center group. These classes are not limited to those offered through the ongoing calendar of classes and can be arranged according to your subject interest and schedule. We will design classes that can address your specific information needs.

Designed to develop basic knowledge of and skills using the fundamental tools of medicine and health-related literature research, information management, and presentation for School of Medicine and Medical Center students, faculty, and staff. All classes are held in the
Carlisle Computer Classroom (CCC),
MSB – Room 198B.
Integrated with the formal curricula of the School of Medicine encompassing undergraduate and graduate education and the Schools of Nursing and Allied Health. Programming is developed in consultation with SOM faculty to address research issues as part of a course of study or for the application of information derived from one or more resources to meet the objectives of a course assignment or assignments. Skills that support life-long learning in medicine and allied health are reinforced.

Patient-centered and integrated into clinic hours, rounds, and departmental conferences. Using the discussion of patient cases among attendings, house staff, and students to answer clinical questions, the library faculty assist in the use of online resources on an ad-hoc basis. Learning is achieved by reviewing the search methods and retrieval with the group during weekly meetings and over time.

Information competency is an identified skill set for today's professional. The library offers programs in support of continuing education tailored for residency training, and faculty and staff development for most disciplines. Typically, these customized programs are held in the library computer classroom and are given in two or more parts.
