The Ehrman Library will be undergoing some renovation to restore areas taken for Smilow construction to the library. The periodicals room will be restored to its original size, there will be an increase in study seating, and the print journals will be reshelved along the perimeter wall space where the windows were previously located.
Although it seems a simple project, there will be construction activity on weekdays and weekends for the next six weeks. At times it will be noisy or perhaps smelling of new paint, and access may be limited.
An additional part of the project will be to replace the lighting on the mezzanine study area that was eliminated with the creation of the Smilow entrance hallway.
We apologize for the inconvenience to you, but we are overjoyed to have the space back in an improved condition. Please check our website for announcements of scheduled construction activities.
Friday, October 5
The construction firm will make an access doorway in the rear wall to allow staff to begin preparation for demolition during the next weekend. Two hours, some noise; early Friday morning.
Monday, October 8-Friday, October 12
The library will be open regular hours, but the staff will be shifting the current periodicals into shelving behind the wall. Please request any needed items from the circulation desk and we will retrieve them for you.
Friday, October 12
At 1:00 p.m., replacement of the entryway flooring will begin. 1.5 days. Entry and exit from the library will be through the rear door by the Information Desk. We will post directional signs. The library will be open during its regular hours. Construction in the periodicals room may begin in the afternoon.
Saturday, October 13
The library will be closed all day for electrostatic painting, demolition of the rear wall and the shelving in the periodicals room.
Monday, October 15-Friday, October 19
The library will be open regular hours, but the periodicals room will be off-limits. Staff will be able to retrieve journals on demand at the circulation desk. Final painting, carpeting, and furniture assembly and repair will take place.
Please be advised that this is a construction schedule, and with construction, one must not be surprised by last minute changes.
