What if my journal's citation style is not in EndNote?

You can add other citation styles to EndNote, beyond the ones that come pre-loaded.

  1. Go to http://www.endnote.com/downloads/styles and find the name of the citation you need. In the page for the style you want, click the “Download this style” button.
  2. You will need to find the EndNote Styles folder on your computer, where the different citation output styles are stored. To do this, open EndNote and under the Edit tab, select Preferences. Click on Folder Locations in the left menu, and then click Select Folder for Style Folder. This will lead you to the styles folder, and the file path will end with \EndNote\Styles. For example the location of the Style folder will be something like: C:\Program Files\EndNote X7\Styles

  3. Copy the EndNote citation file you downloaded into the folder the Styles folder. You can do this by going to your browser and clicking on the “Downloads” button. Then, next to the name of the file will be a button to view it in the folder where it is located. Click on that to open the folder. Drag the EndNote file format from the Downloads folder into the EndNote Styles folder.
  4. Open the menu of citation formats, select “Select Another Style…” from the menu and find your new citation style.
