Most children reach each developmental milestone from first step to first word, to first friendships more or less on schedule. Klass and Costello present three common areas of concern to determine whether something is wrong with the child. These include temperament and behavior, speech development, and social interaction

Klass stresses the importance of well-child checkups in addressing several concerns children face in school and at home, ranging from physical growth to school safety. Asking questions and inviting kids to pose their own and offering some help and encouragement are vital to figure out what's going right and wrong in a child's life
