Computer graphics analysis of STEM images
Llinas, R.; Spitzer, R.; Hillman, D.; Chujo, M.
The authors have designed and implemented an interface between a PDP-15 (DEC) computer and a JEOL 100C scanning electron microscope accessory, to allow computer control of the scanning beam and direct memory storage of frames. Software controls the beam position during either raster scanning or searching of the field. The hardware design allows transmission of analog voltages from digital-to-analog converters for positioning of the scanning beam, return of intensity at each point from the SEM or STEM detector, and interrupt control of both computer and STEM. Software addressing of an existing storage oscilloscope controller overrides internal scan-generating circuitry and positions the beam at any point in the frame. Software for graphics display of stacked surface contours allows three-dimensional reconstruction and interactive analysis
