OLDER READERS OFFER LIVELY DEFENSE OF EUTHANASIA
Caplan, Arthur
Admittedly, not everyone who wrote was of the opinion that I was always careful and thoughtful. OK, to be honest, almost no one who wrote thought I was both. Or either. While lots of folks disagreed with what I had to say about allowing foreigners with AIDS to enter the country, banning silicon breast implants, overturning the federal gag rule on discussions of abortion in family planning clinics and slamming companies that penalize their workers for unhealthy lifestyles, no topic brought more ire into my mailbox than my columns against doctor-assisted euthanasia

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS AREN'T CONTINGENT ON THE `RIGHT' GENES

The fact that [Bree Walker Lampley] has managed to live a life of fame and accomplishment while pulling in what must be some pretty big bucks as a prominent media personality didn't prevent [Jane Norris] from repeatedly asking this question for nearly an hour. Nor did the fact that the Lampleys already have a child with the condition. The only unfair aspect of what is a notably low moment in public discourse is that no one with any disability experience is given a chance to point out that life can still be enjoyed even with dysfunctional fingers and toes

Caplan, Arthur
Arthur Caplan urges the FDA to ignore the self-interested pleas of the breast-implant industry and restrict the use of silicone-gel implants to restorative purposes until those who manufacture and implant these devices can show they are reasonably safe
