Implant-retained partial overdenture with resilient attachments

Chikunov, Igor; Doan, Phuong; Vahidi, Farhad
Management of partially edentulous patients can still be a prosthodontic challenge. Replacing the missing teeth with conventional removable partial dentures (RPDs) is the traditional method for the treatment of partial edentulism; however, there are many potential disadvantages associated with traditional RPDs. With the advent of osseointegrated dental implants, possibilities of prosthetic reconstruction for partial edentulism are endless. This article discusses the implant-retained partial overdenture (IRPOD) with resilient attachments as a predictable and cost-effective treatment for partially edentulous patients

Evaluation of marginal adaptation of all-ceramic crowns and metal ceramic crowns

Vahidi, F; Egloff, E T; Panno, F V
The marginal adaptation of Renaissance crowns is compared with that of the widely used metal ceramic and Dicor crowns. This investigation shows that Dicor and metal ceramic crowns fit better than Renaissance crowns. Clinical implications of all three restorations are discussed

The provisional restoration

Vahidi, F
The utilization of properly fabricated provisional prosthodontic appliances will permit a higher rate of success of the definitive treatment. This phase of restorative treatment should not be merely considered a temporary treatment but as a template for the ensuing prosthesis. The information that is obtained in this phase of treatment will reduce the problems that may be encountered in the definitive treatment. This article has discussed the function and requirements of both provisional, fixed restorations and transitional removable partial dentures. The methods of fabrication and the materials employed have been enumerated

Evaluation of the 45-degree labial bevel with a shoulder preparation

Panno, F V; Vahidi, F; Gulker, I; Ghalili, K M
This study compared the margin opening of cemented porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns of three different casting designs: 80-degree bevels with metal collars, 80-degree bevels with porcelain applied to the labial collars, and 45-degree labial bevels with metal and porcelain to a common margin termination. There were no statistically significant differences between the margin opening of the three groups. Porcelain application and firing did not distort the facial margin. The 45-degree bevel with porcelain to the margin has greater esthetic potential and the same margin adaptation as the 80-degree bevel with an all-metal collar

Vertical displacement of distal-extension ridges by different impression techniques

Vahidi, F
A study was conducted to compare tissue displacement resulting from different techniques and impression materials for distal-extension ridges. Impression techniques used were Applegate's functional fluid wax and a single-impression technique with mercaptan rubber. A mucostatic impression technique using irreversible hydrocolloid served as control. The results showed a statistically significant difference in tissue displacement between the casts made from the functional fluid wax technique and the single-impression technique with mercaptan rubber and the casts in the control group
